I just got back from my first Christmas party of this
season, a long lunch with a dozen old friends. I talked so much I now sound
like a poor imitation of Lauren Becall, and I ate so much cornbread salad that
I’m skipping dinner tonight. This was the beginning of the busiest time of
year, that time when my reading and writing time is measured in minutes rather
than hours, but in budgeting my time for December, I made sure that I blocked out Sunday
night, December 9, beginning at 9:00 (EDT). The Hallmark Hall of Fame
presentation of Christmas with Holly,

by Lisa Kleypas, is a must-see for me, even though I rarely watch TV.
I gave the novel a handful of stars when I reviewed it here
November 2011, and I’m eagerly anticipating the movie. I’ve watched the sneak
peek video half a dozen times, and each time my excitement about the movie has increased. Sean Faris, who plays Mark, is new to me, but he's so good-looking with a fantastic smile. Eloise Mumford, who plays Maggie, has a real life connection to Friday Harbor. The movie promises to be sweet and fun.
Reading Christmas books and watching Christmas movies are
the ways I reward myself for the cleaning, shopping, and endless gift wrapping
that make up the parts of the holiday of which I’m less fond. And what could be
better than a Christmas romance based on a book by one of my favorite authors? So
come Sunday evening, I’ll be partying with ABC and Hallmark for a couple of
hours and celebrating with a square or two of peppermint bark with dark
chocolate.

I've already set it to record on my DVR, Janga. With all the craziness that happens around this time of year I was afraid something would come up and I'd completely forget to watch it. Plus I'm getting lazy and impatient the older I get and would rather not sit through commercials. LOL
My favorite Christmas movie would have to be White Christmas. I can't remember a year we didn't all watch it as a family and then I started the tradition with my kids. They love it, too. Love Actually would be my runner up. The DH and I have been watching that together every year since it came out.
I was wondering if they were planning on turning the rest of the Friday Harbor books into movies. I suppose it would depend on how well Christmas with Holly does. I'd rather the BBC try their hand at the Wallflower series. The creator of Downton Abbey could probably pull it off to my satisfaction. :)
I will keep an eye open for it on UK TV .... really enjoyed the book!
I don't seem to find much time for Christmas films, though watching the 'Christmas Goodlife' with Felicity Kendal and Richard Briers has become something of a Xmas ritual with us.
The Xmas Radio Times, which lists all of the TV films to be shown over the holiday hasn't been published yet. I expect we will pick something to watch when it's available.
Janga, I have just finished the audio book 'Goddess of Fried Ocra' which you reviewed a couple of years ago. Absolutely loved it .... I'm slowly catching up with you! *grin*
We're having company Sunday night, and we don't Tivo, so I'm afraid I'll miss the movie. I'm glad to know about the book, though. I'm on the lookout for new Christmas-themed reading.
I'll be watching! My DVR is set to record so I can enjoy an encore performance too. :)
Irish, I gather from some of the things I've read that there is a lot riding on the audience CWH pulls. If it does well, we may see more.
Love Actually is one of my favorites too. I also love The Muppets Christmas Carol, and I try to watch all those classic Christmas movies like White Christmas, It's A wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and Christmas in Connecticut ever year.
Q, I hope you find a great Christmas movie to watch. And I'm so pleased you read and liked The Goddess of Fried Okra. It continues to be a favorite with me. I hope Jean Brashear is going to do more with those characters.
Nancy, I'm sure they will rebroadcast it sometime. If nothing else, it will show up in the Hallmark Channel's Christmas lineup next year. They are rerunning both Debbie Macomber's Mrs. Miracle stories. So you'll be able to see it; you may just have to wait a while.
PJ, I recently canceled my Tivo subscription since I uaed it so seldom, so I guess one viewing will have to do for me--until next year. :)
