I've been reading Jo Bev's Malloren world books for 19 years and eleven books now, and I'm still excited about book 12 next year.

Most of the fantasy I read is YA--not just J. K. Rowling but also Diana Wynn Jones, Patricia Wrede, Madeleine L'Engle, etc.Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-63549131298037691692011-06-30T09:26:25.302-04:002011-06-30T09:26:25.302-04:00I have only read Beverley's medieval 'Dark...I have only read Beverley's medieval 'Dark Champion' which I much enjoyed.I actually have some of the Malloren books waiting to be read. Just needed a (nice) kick in the pants to get me started. *grin*

My only knowledge of romance novels 10 yrs ago was Jane Austen and some of Mrs Qs covers. I don't seem to notice awards when I start a new book, but looking at Irish's list of RITA winners I have happy memories of Susan Carol's 'The Bride Finder'.Manda recommended it to me so I'm very happy to go with that. *smile*

10 yrs ago I was reading fantasy and have yet to find anything in this genre to best Robin Hobb's Dragon books. My favorites would be the Tawny Man Trilogy but 10 yrs ago I would have been reading 'The Live Ship Traders' first published in 1998.Quantumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08686409685564115213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-6110422669622316062011-06-29T21:20:39.455-04:002011-06-29T21:20:39.455-04:00I've read all those too, Irish. I think I read...I've read all those too, Irish. I think I read them in the year they were published, although I have reread most of them since then. I think generally historicals stand up to the passing years better than contemporaries do. So it really is a measure of the skill of SEP, Nora, and others that their books are still as readable ten or more years after they were published as they were when they were new.Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-52835687034529606552011-06-29T18:29:52.610-04:002011-06-29T18:29:52.610-04:00Okay, Janga, since I just started reading romance ...Okay, Janga, since I just started reading romance again less than 10 years ago, I had to go back and check with the RWA website as to the Rita winners I’ve read.

They started in 1983 with Golden Medallion Winners…

1983 – The Endearment by LaVyrle Spencer
1984 – Hummingbird by LaVyrle Spencer
1988 – The Gamble by LaVyrle Spencer

They started calling them Rita’s in 1990…

1990 – Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer, The Rake and The Reformer by Mary Jo Putney and The Bride by Julie Garwood
1993 - An Unwilling Bride by Jo Beverley
1994 – My Lady Notorious by Jo Beverley
1995 – It Had To Be You by SEP, Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand by Carla Kelly
1996 – Born In Ice by Nora Roberts
1997 – Conor’s Way by Laura Lee Guhrke, Always to Remember by Lorraine Heath
1998 – Nobody’s Baby But Mine by SEP
1999 – Dream a Little Dream by SEP, The Bride Finder by Susan Carroll
2000 – The Proposition by Judith Ivory
2001 – First Lady by SEP, Devilish by Jo Beverley

These are all the ones I’ve read. All but one or two are on my keeper shelf and that’s only because I probably checked those few out from the library and haven’t purchased a used copy yet. LOL

I’d say It Had to Be You by SEP ranks as my favorite. And since I didn’t read it until 10 years after it had been published and still found it a fantastic read I would say that it has stood the test of time. In fact, looking over my list I can’t think of one of these titles that hasn’t stood the test of time. I suppose that’s what makes them the best of the best!irisheyeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11730974733998991144noreply@blogger.com
