I am in total agreement with his assessment. Perhaps more husbands should take a peek at their wives's books. It could lead to a better world, from many perspectives! *smile*Quantumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08686409685564115213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-75241360719212642102010-08-24T20:18:54.644-04:002010-08-24T20:18:54.644-04:00Keira, I see that we share many of the same favori...Keira, I see that we share many of the same favorites. :)

Thanks for the kind words about my Heyer blogs. I wish IASPR's JPRS all the best, but it would take the fun out of writing about Heyer for me if my primary concern became pleasing editors.Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-11876177455361536292010-08-24T20:15:29.621-04:002010-08-24T20:15:29.621-04:00Laurel Ann, thanks for stopping by. I think many romances that feature writer heroines owe unacknowledged debts to Heyer and Phoebe Marlow.Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-84330377913066444752010-08-24T20:02:13.799-04:002010-08-24T20:02:13.799-04:00Q, I already knew Mrs. Q had excellent taste in me...Q, I already knew Mrs. Q had excellent taste in men. I love hearing that her taste in authors is equally praiseworthy. :)

You have something in common with Eric Selinger, one of the leaders in the recent focus on teaching romance novels. He also was hooked on romance by reading his wife's books. I think you would find Leigh Greenwood's review of These Old Shades for AAR interesting. He's another who started reading his wife's books--and he ended up as a romance author.

http://www.likesbooks.com/cgi-bin/bookReview.pl?BookReviewId=4970Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-66920270276203163692010-08-24T02:28:00.067-04:002010-08-24T02:28:00.067-04:00Another hurrah for "These Old Shades."

I now consider both authors to be my introduction to romance novels.

My better half is a big enthusiast for Heyer and has most if not all of her books in audio format so it was natural for me to dabble.

'Those Old Shades' was my first and remains my favorite.

For me, reading Heyer is a bit like listening to a string quartet. It fascinates, relaxes and leaves me feeling refreshed. The books don't excite me or amuse me as much as some other authors, but I always feel that I'm in the presence of a master when listening to a Heyer book.

Janga, your blogs are masterpieces.

There is no comparison with Helli's Harry Potter blogs by the way, other than enthusiasm and you both being masters of the art! *grin*Quantumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08686409685564115213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-88087961511467960572010-08-20T22:50:11.196-04:002010-08-20T22:50:11.196-04:00But isn't it fun to rave about books we love, ...But isn't it fun to rave about books we love, Hellie? One of the things I love about the online romance community is that we have a bigger audience for our raves. :)

Have you seen the new Entertainment Weekly? You should remedy this gap in your romance education ASAP! LOL!

Frederica is my favorite of Heyer's romances. I think you would love it. The Grand Sophy is not only a wonderful story, but I think you will also delight in recognizing Sophy as the prototype of many other romance heroines. And Venetia has the greatest dialogue.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the books I mentioned--and then there are those I didn't mention like Sylvester, The Masqueraders, The Talisman Ring, and An Infamous Army, which follows Devil's Cub and These Old Shades and presents such an accurate view of Waterloo that it has been required reading in college courses. Do let me know what you think when you read your first Heyer.Jangahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15128188159653860806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192776379752748640.post-24062292816550282752010-08-20T22:21:06.091-04:002010-08-20T22:21:06.091-04:00Vi, I think a lot of readers are only now discover...Vi, I think a lot of readers are only now discovering Heyer. I kept reading about the praises of Devil's Cub on another board. Finally, I succumbed and ordered it. What an eye-opener into the world of Heyer!
Vidal is a true bad boy brought down by love. His parents, especially his mother, were my favorite secondary characters. Thus, I had to get their book.

A friend sent me a lot of Heyer's books to read. Unfortunately, they are still sitting in the TBR pile, but I should try to read one soon.Vi Daohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06995999071619067805noreply@blogger.com
